State Leaders Innovation Institute

In early 2008, the NTAR Leadership Center competitively selected three states (Connecticut, Maryland, and Minnesota) for participation in an intensive 15-month leadership institute. The NTAR Leadership Center devoted resources to assisting all three states to become the nation’s leading examples for pioneering models to promote employment for adults with disabilities by enhancing partnerships with statewide workforce development and economic development efforts. The State Leaders Innovation Institute was extended to August 2010 during which time the Center continued to provide research, technical assistance, and leadership training geared to each state's specific challenges.

State Peer Leaders Network

From 2008-2011, the NTAR Leadership Center offered the State Peer Leaders Network, a forum designed to facilitate information exchange, continuous learning, and the sharing of promising practices and strategies for a select group of state policymakers interested in putting these practices to work. Technical assistance (based on resources and need) as well as access to topical teleconferences, webinars, and a virtual leadership institute were provided through the Center.

The State Peer Leaders Network united state and local leaders with a strong interest in the employment of adults with disabilities. Members of the State Peer Leaders Network included: Alaska, California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia.

A comprehensive list of webinars and online seminars offered by the State Peer Leaders Network are available here. Also available are archives of teleconferences and quarterly surveys on policies, practices, and partnerships relating to the employment of people with disabilities.
